Thanks to all who helped make the first ever JUST PARTY so fabulous. It was the realization of a long held fantasy to have DJs, a warehouse and a band come together for a chill evening of grooves, good friends and all the fun festive fixing.

Francis Moore Lappe

I had the good fortune to attend a talk last night by Francis Moore Lappe, author of the groundbreaking book Diet For A Small Planet, published in 1971. She was in Madison, Wisc., with her new book Democracy's Edge and spoke at the Pres House on the UW campus.

As someone who has devoted her life to issues of food, she has come to understand and document that world hunger is created by humans. It is political, not environmental. For her, the intersection of food and democracy provides a clear framework in which to discuss how we as human can do better.

Urbana-Champaign, Ill, has a new low-power FM radio station - WRFU. Well more than 100 volunteers from across North and Central America decended on the U-C Independent Media Center to take part in a weekend-long station barnraising. The Prometheus Radio Project helped coordinate the weekend, which included workshops, trainings and live music. As of this posting (with thanks to Prometheus), you can listen to the live stream here.

At promptly 5 p.m. CST on Sunday, November 13, WRFU went live with toasts all around for the intense labor and emotion that went into creating the station and for an active future of community media creation. I was thrilled to be there for it. Here's lift-off audio recorded in the performance space.
